Posted by: Catherine Clarke 6 years, 3 months ago

The Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Culture at the University of Southampton invites applications from second and final year PhD students and recent postdocs to take part in the 2014 Reuter Masterclass on Tuesday 27 May 2014.

The Masterclass will precede the 2014 Reuter Lecture, to be given by Dr Tessa Webber of Trinity College, Cambridge, and will be led by her. The topic of Dr Webber’s lecture is 'Talking Books: reading aloud in the Middle Ages'.

Participants in the master class may come from any disciplinary background, and will present 20 minute papers comprising studies relating to reading from the early medieval period through to 1700. They should demonstrate a nuanced understanding of the value, potential, and perhaps limitations of their approach to the study of this theme.  A prize will be awarded.

Please send a brief biography (max 100 words), with a title and an abstract for your proposed paper (max 250 words) to Professor Chris Woolgar (c.m.woolgar@southampton.ac.uk) by 16 April 2014.
